Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Club Players and Parents: 

We will be holding a player / parent meeting this Sunday, 10/09/2011 at 6:00 PM in the BCISC Rink 2 Meeting Room.  Aside from normal club business, USA Hockey  /  Referee Monty Ferguson will be doing a presentation on the new rule changes and also discuss head injuries and concussions.  This will allow both parents and players to be better informed on new rules and raise awareness of head injuries.

Please make every attempt to attend this meeting.  If you have not submitted your necessary USA Hockey / ABW Hockey paperwork, please bring that along with you.

REMINDER – The Wood Ice Hockey Varsity team is playing William Tennent on Friday, 09/30/2011 at 8:35 PM in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Warwick. 

Admission is $5.00 and all money goes to the American Cancer Society.

Ice Hockey Clinic

The Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Club is offering a Free Ice Hockey Clinic for all players interested in the Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Program. Archdiocese of Philadelphia students presently in grades 4th to 8th are eligible to participate in the Ice Hockey Clinic and learn about the Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Program.

Good morning,

At this time there are two SHSHL updates to the varsity schedule.

The December 1st game versus Malvern Prep at the BCISC will start at 6:50 pm rather than 7 pm.

There will be no game on December 23.

To all senior players and families, please see note from club president Kathy Rotz below.  Please note that Kathy is asking for a reply by 11/18.  Thanks!

To all Senior Families:
We will be having Senior Parent Recognition Night before the Wood-Tennant game on November 24th.  All parents and players should be at the rink (BCISC) and players dressed for the game no later than 6:30 pm.  The parents will be entering the ice near the locker rooms so that is where they should report once they arrive.  If special passes or name tags are needed I will make sure they are at the rink ahead of time. 

Senior players - please email me, no later than Thursday November 18th, a short bio with the following information:  How long have you been involved with Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey;  any involvement with any other sports, clubs or programs at school and what your future plans include (College, Work, Military,etc).  Also, please include the names of who will be showing up to be announced with you so I can pass it along to Jim Bagdon.

Tomorrow night's game versus St. Joe's Prep will start at 9:00 PM at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center (aka Face Off Circle).

There has been no new information regarding the availability of the helmet stickers. Please keep in mind that each player will be required to purchase a sheet for $10 when the stickers do become available.

Also, a reminder that the Comedy Night ticket money is due tomorrow night. If you have not already paid, Colleen or I will collect before the game (9:00 pm @ BCISC vs. St. Joe's Prep). As always, thanks for your continued support of Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey!

Helmet Stickers

We now have Helmet Stickers!

Attached is a PDF of the sticker sheets that are now available to the players.  The cost is $10.  We have them in stock and can be distributed to you to sell at the practices or games. 

Would you kindly send this pdf to your players so they can see them and be prepared so they can buy them?  Barbara Paul will have them in inventory after the initial sale. This is a mandatory purchase.

We expect that they will be available at Friday night's game against Holy Ghost Prep (7:25 pm start @ Grundy).

Charity Fundraiser

This year we were fortunate enough to be introduced to Helen's Hope. Helen’s Hope is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to individuals battling cancer and their families whose lives have been impacted by this disease. It partners with agencies such as local hospitals, hospice programs and religious communities. It is even more special to us because members of our Wood Hockey family started the organization, Steve and Peggy Ricci. It is their son, Nick’s, Aunt Helen, who they are remembering through their charity.

We are going to be selling 50/50’s at every home game with the proceeds of all three teams going to Helen’s Hope at the end of the season. A parent volunteer will be needed to sell the tickets, please see your team manager for further details. In a few weeks, t-shirts will be sold again with the proceeds from the sale of the shirts going to Helen’s Hope. We hope to do some other things throughout the season and will let you know as they happen. If you would like some more information about Helen’s Hope, please visit the website at www.HelensHope.org. Alumni Thanksgiving Tournament

Most of the clubs have very successful alumni games and all the former players really seem to look forward to participating. Just a reminder - the varsity schedule was updated a couple of weeks ago and the start time for Friday night's game against Roman Catholic at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center (Face Off) is now 9 PM.

Funderaiser News

Please save the date, Saturday, November 20, 2010, we will be having a fundraiser for the ice hockey teams at the Comedy Cabaret located above Poco’s in Doylestown.

 The details are as follows:

1)     Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

2)     Show time: 7:00 p.m.

3)     Ticket price is $20.

4)     Must be 21 years old

5)     Each family will be required to sell 5 tickets.  {If you have more than one player in the club, you will only be required to purchase 5 tickets.}  Should  you require additional tickets, please communicate with other families.

6)     Tickets will be distributed in the very near future.  {Colleen and/or I will distribute to the varsity team.}

7)     Ticket money will be due no later than Wednesday, November 10.  {Colleen and/or I will collect from the varsity team.  Please note that each family is responsible for five tickets.  If not paid, the $100 aggregate ticket cost will be added to the player's AWIHC account.  Tickets can be resold to friends, family, etc. if you are unable to use them.} 

This is a really fun evening for you, your friends, and family.  Please plan to attend and help make this a very successful fundraiser for the boys.

Practice Times for Monday Changed

There was a typo in the practice schedule. Monday practices are at 4:30 pm. Coach Marc also reminds the players that they must speak to him directly about practice attendance matters.

Good morning! 

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer – one more week to go! 

Coach Marc has scheduled a special varsity practice for Wednesday, September 8th at 8 pm at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center (aka Face Off Circle).  The regular practice schedule (Sundays @ 6:50 pm and Mondays @ 4pm, both at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center ) will begin on September 12th.

-The varsity team will participate in the second annual Coaches Versus Cancer Ice Hockey Tournament at Warwick .  Our schedule (as of 8/26):

-Thursday September 9th vs  Council Rock North, 8:35 pm at Warwick

-Thursday September 16th vas Central Bucks East, 6:55 pm at Warwick

-Tournament playoffs Thursday September 30th at Warwick , time TBD

-Tournament finals Friday October 1st at Warwick , time TBD

In addition, varsity has scheduled a preseason game on Friday, September 17th at Hollydell ( Sewell , NJ ) vs Washington Township HS, time TBA.

Senior Recognition Night

Senior night will be held on Friday, February 5th at Face Off.  Varsity players should be dressed and ready to take the ice at 7 pm.  All Senior Parents should be in attendance as they will be recognized along with their sons.  Please pass the word along to classmates, family and friends as we would like everyone there to help us honor our Seniors and cheer us on in the scheduled 7:20pm varsity game against Conwell Egan.

The revival of the Archbishop Wood hockey program began in earnest last season and continues into 2010. Behind top performances from a pair of talented scorers and a first-rate netminder the Vikings are well ahead of their PCL Blue rivals in the standings, but their closest pursuers hold several games in hand.

The Vikings' Cori Morris and Christian Gregory have matching point totals through 12 games, each with 10 goals and seven assists to co-lead the team. Morris has three power play goals on the year while Gregory, an adept penalty-killer, has a team-high three shorthanded goals.

Wood's Frank Grimes has played part of all of the team's 12 games between the pipes, and the standout netminder has allowed two or fewer goals in seven of those outings. He's allowed more than four goals just twice, both to PCL Red AAA squads.

Aside from their skirmishes with AAA powers Holy Ghost, Ryan and SJ Prep, the Vikings figure to get tested in the new year by a resurgent Conwell Egan squad, undefeated and dominant in its first two PCL games.

The Vikings have beaten Lansdale Catholic twice, and Carroll once. Wood turned in a successful season last year, but have lost Eric Neiley to Phillips Exeter. They will count on Matt Abramek up front, and Frank Grimes in net.
